Location: Where to Find the Manager's Office Safe

The safe is located beneath the desk in the Manager's Office of the Grand Carpathian Hotel. This area is part of Mission 3, "All the Time in the World," which sends a young James Bond (played by Patrick Gibson) to a world chess championship in Slovakia.

To reach the office, head behind the reception area in the hotel lobby. The door may be locked or require a distraction to slip past staff. Once inside, look under the desk. The safe is not visible from a standing position. You will need to crouch or move in close to interact with the keypad.

This safe is completely optional for story progression. You can finish the mission without ever touching it. But if you want to unlock additional areas, collect cards, and complete challenges, it is well worth the detour.

The Wine-Themed Puzzle: Deciphering the Code

IO Interactive hid two clues in plain sight inside the Manager's Office. Together, they form a simple but satisfying environmental puzzle.

First clue: Open the left drawer of the side table in the office. Inside you will find a wine-tasting note. It mentions "Mont Arras Sacrimental" and describes a rich, full-bodied red. The note is clearly a tasting record, but the name is slightly misspelled.

Second clue: On the right side of the desk sits a wine bottle labeled "Vino Sacramental." Look for a bottle with a gold label, inspect it closely, and you will see the vintage year: 1952.

The connection is straightforward: the tasting note describes the exact wine on the desk. The note intentionally misspells "Sacramental" as "Sacrimental," a clever oversight that rewards careful reading. The bottle reveals the vintage. Combine the two, and the code becomes obvious: 1952.

This is classic Hitman-style design. No handholding, no diary entries. Just environmental details that reward curiosity.

Entering the Code: 1952 and Common Confusions

The safe code is widely reported as 1952 by major outlets including Polygon, Eurogamer, IGN, GamesRadar, and Game Rant.

But entering the code is only half the battle. On PC, you must press E after entering the number to confirm the input. Omitting this step is a common source of frustration. Many players report that the keypad appears to accept the digits but does not open. Hit that confirm key.

Another potential issue: make sure you are at the right safe, the one under the desk in the Manager's Office, not a different safe elsewhere in the hotel. If the door is locked, you may need to distract the manager or wait for an opportunity.

Rewards: Cellar Key, 6 of Roses, and Wine Connoisseur Challenge

Open the safe, and you will receive two valuable items:

  1. 6 of Roses collectible card - Part of a deck of cards you can collect across the game. Finding all cards contributes to completionist goals.
  2. Cellar Key - This key unlocks a path to the hotel kitchen. From the kitchen, you can obtain a bellhop hat needed for the "Bellboy Hat" challenge. The hat allows you to blend in with hotel staff and access restricted areas.

Additionally, opening the safe completes the "Wine Connoisseur" challenge (internally named "Vine-Connaisseur" by the developers). This challenge is tracked in the game's achievements menu.

These rewards are entirely optional. But they enrich the mission's exploration and give you more tools for creative approaches. IO Interactive designed the Grand Carpathian Hotel as a dense, puzzle box-like environment, and the safe is one of its best hidden nooks.

Bonus: The Laundry Room Door Code (1805)

While you are in the Manager's Office, do not leave without checking the desk surface. Near the left corner, a Security Notice reveals a separate code: 1805 for the Laundry Room. This code is needed to unlock another door in the same mission, granting access to a different section of the hotel.

Both codes are part of IO Interactive's layered environmental storytelling. The manager's desk contains everything a thorough agent needs: a wine-related puzzle for the safe and a simple document for the laundry room. The game trusts you to find and remember both.

The Art of the "Aha" Moment

The Manager's Office safe in 007 First Light is a perfect example of the game's clever, Hitman-inspired design. A simple wine-tasting puzzle yields not only a valuable key and collectible but also a satisfying "aha" moment. You can solve it yourself by matching the misspelled wine name to the bottle, or you can use this guide. Either way, the 1952 code opens up more of the Grand Carpathian Hotel and its secrets.

Happy exploring, Agent.
